In 1432 AH, the updated comprehensive plan of Riyadh has been adopted which includes the environmental strategy as one of the strategies within the comprehensive strategic plan. It also included the detailed executive program. In 1427 AH, the Riyadh development authority decided at its third meeting in 1427 AH to format a higher committee for environmental protection in Riyadh in order to monitor the environmental situation in the city, raise the level of coordination between the different agencies, set up an executive program for the protection of the environment and follow its execution with the agencies that specialized in the environment sector. Since then, the authority plays important roles in protecting the environment of the kingdom’s capital.
